Statement

I visualize myself standing in front of the mirror painting my self-portrait, in different light and in different angles. What is hiding behind the image in the mirror, who is she looking at me so examiningly? I was then 18 years of age. Here I began a journey, where in the continuous strokes of colours I strive to find the shade of colour that carries the light and gives every part of the surface the distinct tone, expressing the character and the inner soul of the face. It sometime happens after intensive work and in a state of strong presence, that this process leads me into a subconscious flow, where the painting starts to tell me something unexpected and the creative process becomes self supporting; making the image "come alive" and amazing me. That is the reason that my work continues now, 35 years later, and I turn to the outer world to find the motives hidden in the different shapes of people and their surroundings, other cultures but still the same aim to liberate the unexpected story of the inner life, expressing itself through everything and everybody in the line of my work. Thus, a couple of years ago, I commenced a line of paintings reflecting the image of "The Human Family", sketching, photographing or constructing assemblages from different sources to support my paintings, and my journey continues in the footsteps of the human race.
